Spring is on the Horizon

Look around – there are signs that spring is nearly here. Hamamelis x intermedia Arnold Promise is beginning to bud and spring bulbs are sending up green shoots.

Here in DC, clusters of crocus were sighted over the weekend. For gardeners, this is the season of preparedness.

As we creep towards the Spring Equinox (March 20) there’s much to be done ensure your garden performs at its best this year. It’s time to cut back perennials and grasses, apply fertilizer, and mulch your garden while the ground is still frozen, or at least firm. The result, a stark but beautiful landscape, is a garden ready to wake up. See your garden in this new way and consider opportunities to make revisions, replacements or additions. You’ll also be able to assess winter damage to trees and shrubs.
