Oehme, van Sweden & Associates, Inc. (OvS) was presented with the Historic Preservation Review Board Chairman’s Award for landscape design work at the Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital in Washington, DC at the 9th Annual Awards for Excellence in Historic Preservation.

Sponsored by the District of Columbia Office of Planning, The DC Preservation League and the DC Office of Historic Preservation, the ceremony took place on June 21, 2012 at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue and honored “exemplary work and commitment to historic preservation in the District.” Washington, DC Mayor Vincent C. Gray was a presenter at the ceremony and touted the awards as an “addition to the quality of life, economic well-being and long term appeal” of the District of Columbia.
The Hill Center project involved the renovation and restoration of the oldest documented naval hospital in Washington, DC. Originally completed in 1866, the Capitol Hill building had been dormant since 1998, but re-opened in 2011 as an educational center for children and adults as well as a gathering place for residents. OvS Associate Marisa Scalera accepted the award on the firm’s behalf.
