Eric Groft featured in LAM

OvS Principal Eric Groft was recently highlighted in Landscape Architecture Magazine (LAM), the magazine of the American Society of Landscape Architects. The magazine’s November 2017 issue explored the use of bamboo – its common perceptions, myths, and facts.

The article discusses how bamboo has a negative perception (some municipalities have outright banned its use) but many designers in the landscape architectural community feel differently. Groft is quoted in the article stating, “blatantly banning the plant” simply doesn’t work: Nature’s going to win no matter how much you try to legislate.”

For OvS, bamboo is frequent used if planting design. Founder Wolfgang Oehme, who was famous for using the plant, introduced Blue Fountain bamboo to the U.S. from Germany. Groft states, “If there’s a qualified landscape architect on the project who can use it with control or respect, that’s the critical thing.”
