The Nature Conservancy Honors Donors

On Saturday August 10, 2013, OvS Principal Eric Groft accompanied Barbara Slifka to a Nature Conservancy event honoring both donors and Charlie Marder of Marder’s Nursery.

The event was held at the home of Mickey and Peggy Drexler in Montauk, NY, adjacent to the Nature Conservancy’s Shadmoor Preserve. The estate was formerly owned by Andy Warhol and features a series of simple white cottages on rolling green lawn and meadows with dramatic views of the rough Atlantic surf and the bluffs of Montauk.

OvS has a long history with Charlie and Marder’s Nursery and Eric was honored to be there. Charlie and his crew had built a low dry laid stone wall using native glacier stone with wildlife openings for animals to pass underneath. The wall provided a wonderful thread of hardscape through the rough meadow and scrub oak on the site. The site also featured extraordinary custom outdoor furniture by Theirry Despont. The weather cooperated and the sunset was breathtaking. Guests dined on a Prosciutto and fresh mozzarella bar, Kobe sliders and crab cakes while sipping on peach nectar and rosemary cocktails.
