Tippet Rise Art Center Opens

Last week OvS Principal Lisa Delplace, Associate Liz Stetson, and Designer Jung Lee attended the opening of Tippet Rise Art Center, a cultural destination near Billings, Montana. Billed as “where music, art, and nature interact” Tippet Rise features live classical music and a sculpture collection in the shadow of the Beartooth Mountains.

OvS engaged with Tippet Rise founders Cathy and Peter Halstead and Director Alban Bassuet for more than two years to design a Master Plan for the property, an 11,500-acre working ranch outside of the town of Fishtail. The firm’s collaborative work on the site includes the property’s entry sequence, stormwater capture and distribution, and a solar canopy. OvS also sited three performance areas and artist’s residences and provided circulatory systems to move pedestrian and vehicular traffic throughout the property.

Two sold-out concerts in the Olivier Music Barn were the highlight of the opening weekend. Guests were also able to visit additional event venues and nine sculptural works by internationally renowned artists via fully accessible hiking trails and paths that were designed to minimize the public’s impact on the landscape.

The OvS team will visit Tippet Rise again in the coming months to fine-tune logistics and make adjustments based on observations of how the public interacts with the property, buildings and sculpture.
