Oehme, van Sweden’s Native Plant Garden Wins 2014 Honor Award for Landscape Architectural Design

The New York Botanical Garden’s Native Plant Garden was awarded the New York Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects 2014 Honor Award in Landscape Architectural Design.

The Native Plant Garden – designed by OvS – is a 3.5-acre installation featuring a dramatic waterway, broad boardwalks of black locust and intimate paths that transport visitors through a variety of micro-climates – from wet, sunny areas to dry, shady areas.

OvS designed the Garden to include a mélange of native trees, shrubs and other plants, as well as their more exotic counterparts used traditionally in formal gardens. Multiple pavilions, designed by H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture, serve a variety of functions, including as an outdoor classroom for school groups and others to learn about the ecological benefits of native plants and the birds and insects they sustain.
